Matthew 10:39

Recently, I’ve been mulling over what Jesus says in Matthew 10:39:

“Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.”

There are so many areas of my life where I'm trying to make something happen so that I can “progress” according to my own definition of the term; I’m constantly falling into this desire to be self-made and remake myself in my own ideal image, not God’s.

Whether it’s what I choose to watch or read, how I choose to interact with friends, family, and coworkers, what I'm aiming for on a daily basis, or even what I choose to think about, I fall into the lie that I need to make something happen, to make a name for myself so that I can be the version of the man I have concocted in my mind.

God is calling me to let this go…to lose the life I’ve made for myself so that He can give me the life He’s made for me. And, in turn, by receiving everything He wants to gift me, I will actually find the life I’ve been striving after all along.
